TechBIZKON 2020: Connected Industries

Connected Industries was all about the tech and solutions making smart factories, well, smart.
This edition of the TechBIZKON had two Japanese partners, CIC and Venture Cafe.
It was also the TechBIZKON most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and the respective counter-measures.
One more reason we carried one main topic over to the event format - robotics. In particular the networking relied on telerobots that could be give startup reps from abroad a way to participate in the event. The robots could be steered from abroad, speakers, microphone and a screen made networking possible. Kanpai!
The organizing countries on the European side included Austria, Germany and Finland.
Other than robotics, solutions included different SaaS platforms, drones, AI services, logistic automation, 3D-printing for production processees, and sensoring.

TechBIZKON 2019: Digital Health

Nobody knew how timely the topic for the TechBIZKON 2019 was chosen. The third edition of the TechBIZKON took place in December 2019 just before the world faced the Covid-19 crisis.
Needless to say that many of the digital technologies and solutions presented at the Digital Health edition of the TechBIZKON have become sought after with the pandemic spreading. Remote patient examinations and monitoring removing the need to come to hospitals, automation solutions for nurse stations with hospitalized patients, sensors for care facilities and many more took the stage.
The TechBIZKON III: Digital Health Beyond 2020 was organized with EdgeOf in Shibuya, a startup and innovation house which unfortunately has not survived the pandemic and the end of physical events.
The people behind the project however still hold eminent positions in Tokyo's startup scene and continue until today to support the TechBIZKON project in various roles.
The organizing countries on the European side included Austria, Germany and Finland.

TechBIZKON 2018: Artificial Intelligence

The second edition of the TechBIZKON was in a way an experiment. While for the first edition in 2017 we did not focus on any specific vertical or topic, in the second edition we tried to focus on an underlying technology rather than a specific vertical.
We realized that artificial intelligence would become a domineering keyword for years to come, hence the TechBIZKON 2018 showcased 11 startups in the AI space.
Seven startups from Austria, Germany and Switzerland were joined by four startups from Japan from where CREWW had joined the TechBIZKON as the Japanese partner and accelerator.
CREWW is still a very active partner and one of the large and successful co-working spaces and accelerators in central Tokyo.
The participating startups showed AI supported noise cancellation, individualized fashion recommendations, artificially created customer data, facial recognition, mixed reality solutions and solutions for health care.

TechBIZKON 2017: The Beginning

The first edition of the TechBIZKON was coming after foreign startup festival organizers had discovered Tokyo just a few years before. The main focus of them was the pitching contest which is until today also part of the TechBIZKON.
However, as organizations that not only promote our companies but also stand for connecting our countries with Japan, we felt that linking the fairly developed startup ecosystem players from Europe with the growing scene in Tokyo/Japan needed to be part of our mission. Moreover, we wanted to provide Japanese startups a getway to Europe, not just in winning a contest but assuring them with our organizational framework. As non-profit oriented organizations startups and Japanese ecosystem partners could develop the trust that our partners until today have in our activities.
For the first edition we had 01-Booster as accelerator and Japanese partner and the New York Univ. campus in Shinagawa as venue partner.
European startups showed solutions like navigation services, holo-technologies, business network creation and a music learning platform.
